  • Photo identification is required for all adoptions

  • Adopter must provide landlord approval or provide proof of home ownership.

  • All potential new pet owners are required to complete an adoption application. Filling our application does not obligate you to adopt an animal nor does it guarantee you will be able to adopt a pet.

Pre-Adoption Applications:
To save some time, you are welcome to fill out our Online Pre-Adoption Application  or download a Printable Pre-Adoption Form and complete at home.  Please bring application with you when you visit our adoption days or event. Applications cannot be accepted by mail.

Before You Bring Home Your New Pet

Think about what supplies you will need to make your new pet feel at home. Dogs and cats both need bedding, food and water, bowls, and collars. Your dog will need a leash. Adding a cat means adding a litter box and litter. Veterinarians recommend at least one box for every cat in the house (and often say one additional box is a good idea.) Think about toys for both cats and dogs. Having activities will help distract and entertain them while they are assimilating to their new environments.
Crating your new pet is the best way to get them home safely. Once in the home, leave the crate in an accessible area. It serves as an animals “private space” where he can get away from other pets and people. If you are adopting a puppy you’ll want to baby proof the home—much like you would for a toddler. Curiosity can kill a pup or severely injure them, so look for anything that they might be able to chew on, pull off, or knock over
When you arrive to pick up your new pet, please remember:
  • All dogs/puppies will need a collar/I.D. tag and leash (no choke chains)
  • All cats/kittens will need a safety collar/I.D. tag and in a transport carrier.
  • All small animals/rabbits must go home in a transport carrier.
  • Micro-chipping is available for an small additional fee.

Approval or Denial
The Plight of Dogs and Cats, Puppies and Kittens

Although the future is positive for our own pets and perhaps for those of our neighbors, relatives and acquaintances, the future for so many pets is not very bright. There are many reasons why this unfortunate fact is true. Nationally, there are approximately 10 times more pets than there are homes for pets. Because of the serious overpopulation problem, 50,000 animals have to be put to death every day in shelters throughout the United States. Sadly, fewer than 2 out of every 10 pets who find homes today will live out their lives in that home. The rest are either given away, sold, lost, abandoned, or taken to animal shelters. Many of the pets.

Responsibilities of our Humane Society Regarding Animal Adoptions

Rather than perpetuate the problems that dogs, cats, puppies and kittens experience, responsible humane societies work to end these problems by seeking responsible, humane, and life-long homes serve as adoption agency (much like adoption agencies for children), rather than pet shops. Our humane society serves as pet adoption agency where legally binding contracts are executed. According to the terms of the adoption contract with The Humane Society of Mason County, the adopter agrees to care for their pet in a responsible and humane manner. Adoptions are governed by adoption policies designed to assure responsible and humane treatment of shelter pets based upon recognized humane principles. We reserve the right to deny the adoption of any animal for any reason.

Reasons Why You Would be Denied an Adoption

  • Incompatible household environment
  • Incompatible life style for breed of dog
  • Inadequate housing or proper fencing
  • History or suspected of neglect or abuse
